How to choose a Pet Rabbit Hutch
Choosing the right hutch for your pet rabbit is vital for its health and wellbeing. Here is a beginner’s guide to help you choose the right rabbit hutch for your pet rabbit.
Firstly you should decide on the type of pet rabbit you want so you can choose a rabbit hutch that suits your breed of rabbit. Ask your breeder what the maximum size your rabbit could grow into, as this will help you to decide on the size of the hutch
After that you’ll need to decide where to keep your pet rabbit. Most often rabbits are kept outside in a rabbit hutch and have a rabbit run for exercise. Alternatively they are kept inside the house in a rabbit cage and with access to an indoor pen.
The next thing you’ll need to do is decide which size of rabbit hutch would most suit your type rabbit. The shortest length recommended for a rabbit hutch is 4ft for a dwarf rabbit or 5ft for a larger pet rabbit. The width of rabbit hutch should allow your rabbit room to lie across comfortably and the height must allow for the rabbit to stand up fully on its hind legs.
After that you’ll need you’ll need to think about what you can afford. Rabbit hutches usually start from upwards of £50 for a simple hutch and could cost you £100s if you want a fancier hutch. As a minimum you’ll need a hutch with a separate enclosed room such as a sleeping area and a small outside area.
Other important considerations when choosing your hutch is to ensure that it is safe from predators such as dogs or foxes and also that it is easy it is clean. Check the doors are very secure so that your rabbit is safe from predators such as foxes or dogs and that your rabbit can’t get out of the hutch. Also check that the door of the hutch makes it easy to access inside the hutch for cleaning.
