Dwarf Rabbits Life Span

Do tarantulas make good pets?

I like to hold things and I find them rather interesting. What’s the risk of being bitten? I have a ball python and rabbit already, soon to have dwarf hamsters.

What’s a tarantulas life span, too?
*if you piss them off
Har-har, funny.

I know they can be poisonous is you piss them off, but I like calm animals. Napoleon (my snake) is very content to chill out of my shoulders, so I’d like another interesting, low-maintenance creature. (:

Tarantulas can make intriguing pets, and require very little maintenance.

Tarantulas are not keen on holding though, and you should only minimally hold them. You should be gentile and keep low to the ground, for the safety of the tarantula. If you don’t grab them, but just guide them onto your hand, you should not get bitten. You’re more likely to get bitten by your hamsters than a rose hair or mexican red knee tarantula. Tarantula bites usually just result in swelling and local pain for most new world species. Old world species can be a bit more difficult and painful.

Tarantulas can live over 20 years if taken care of properly. I have heard that the record is a rose hair that lived to be 40. Males will not live as long as females can though, and die off about a year after reaching maturity.

I recommend getting “The Tarantula Keeper’s Guide” by Stanley A. Schultz, Marguerite J. Schultz and/or “Tarantulas and Other Arachnids” by Samuel D. Marshall. These are the two best books on tarantula care.
